I Tried the Rest, These are the Best!

Posted by Michelle on 2nd May 2016

I have a 10' Pelican Eclipse (Apex) that I absolutely love. We live in Florida, which is ideal for almost year-round kayaking. While sitting in a cool puddle during the warmer (and hotter!) months is refreshing, it still gets pretty chilly here and sitting in a puddle in cooler, windy weather does put a damper (pun intended!) on my fun, especially since I favor the cool water of the natural springs we have here. I tried some spiral scupper plugs first, one of which broke while we were trying to put it in. Then we tried another brand of the same design, but they just didn't fit in the holes properly and I still sat in a small puddle. After many internet searches, I found that many people use those foam golf balls, but having to put them in with a rubber mallet, then not being able to remove them while I'm floating was a HUGE disadvantage. I may start out chilly, but when it hits 90 degrees and the sun is pounding on you, the spring water coming through those holes is oh-so delightful! So then I did the logical thing and did a search for scupper plugs that are actually MADE by Pelican. While these may not look like much, let me tell you, they are absolutely perfect!! I can push them right in with my thumb and they form a great seal. Then I give some gentle tugs to the string, and *pop*, out they come! My kayak has six scupper holes so I did purchase two packages, for a total of 8. If figure an extra two can't hurt! I leave the two in the "back" area with my little cooler and supplies plugged all the time, and then the four that make my seat "puddle" can be taken in and out as I please. So glad I found these!!!
